Illinois’ capitol, in Springfield, was the twenty-ninth I photographed. As one might imagine, there is a lot of Lincoln here, and while in Springfield I was also able to visit Lincoln’s grave and his library and museum, as well as the old Illinois capitol (photos included here). The current capitol is similar to many midwestern capitols in that it is the centerpiece of a wide area in the middle of a small city. It is a cross-shaped building with four wings, and a massive silver dome rises high above the rest of the building - this is the tallest domed capitol in the country. This is one of my favorites, especially in terms of interior shots - the warm colors and lighting make for some dramatic views inside as well as out. These photos were all taken in April of 2019.
