Arizona’s capitol, in Phoenix, was the 36th capitol I photographed. The capitol is a complex of buildings that includes the original territorial capitol, a three-story building with a shallow dome made from Arizona copper and topped by the ‘Winged Victory’ statue. In the 1970s, the capitol was expanded to include an executive tower behind the original building, and separate spaces for the Senate and House to each side of a central plaza. The original building is now a museum. These photos were all taken in June of 2023.
