Washington’s capitol, in Olympia, was the 42nd capitol I photographed. The building exterior and the setting are among my favorites: set on a hilltop along a lake and right next to an inlet of Puget Sound, the capitol is full of possibility. The time I spent shooting its reflection in the still water of Capitol Lake produced so many beautiful images it was hard to narrow it down. And while the interior wasn’t as ornate or interesting as I’d have liked, it offered some good possibilities, especially when incorporating some of the other visitors (such as a quinceanera photoshoot that was happening while I was there). These photos were all taken in August of 2024.
